RELIGIOUS EXPLORATION

Peg and Gerry
As of August, 2009, we are very happy to have hired two individuals who will share the Director of Religious Exploration position - Peg Hall and Gerry Azzata. We look forward to working with them in the further development of the Children's Religious Exploration and in the planning of our Adult Religious Exploration Program.

Peg finds in UUTC "an environment that invites people to take next steps in their faith development. Now I'm thrilled to add my resources to this fertile soil." Gerry's hope is that she "can help UUTC's fine folks as a 'Co-DRE' during this time of rapid growth and abundant ideas."

Congratulations, Peg and Gerry! And WELCOME!

CHILDREN'S RELIGIOUS EXPLORATION

At UUTC, we use the "Spirit Play" program, a Unitarian Universalist children's curriculum. This rich and varied curriculum is modeled after Jerome's Berryman's Godly Play method. It draws from and integrates the Montessori technique in helping the children to learn about the Spirit within and around us. The stories are told using a mulitsensory approach. The children are encouraged to explore the stories further through "wondering time" and creative projects. Spirit Play is for children ages 4 to second grade. The classes begin each Sunday after the children's message. Find out more about Spirit Play.

3rd-5th Graders
The "Wise Phoenix" group includes 3rd-5th graders. The main text used is the book, "What If Nobody Forgave?," a collection based on 19 stories addressing themes that correlate with the 7 principles of Unitarian-Universalism. The children will keep a "Book of Questions", a personal journal where the children are encouraged to do art, record philosophical thoughts, ideas, and questions, as a way to document what each is thinking and have as a reference for discussion with each other and the teacher. The third component to the class is community outreach, where the class decides upon a project to put into action work outside themselves.
