ABOUT UUTC

The Unitarian Universalists of Transylvania County, organized in 1999, are a diverse group - from all walks of life, from myriad religious traditions, from all over the world, of all ages. We welcome those who seek truth and justice, personal spiritual discovery and growth, and who wish to engage locally and in the larger community to make our small world a better place for all people. We are an open and welcoming congregation, and act on our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of all people. And we're a lot of fun!

There's a lot happening at UUTC!
For personal spiritual growth and exploration, we hold two Sunday services each week with thoughtful, insightful sermons by our minister and by guest speakers. During services, we enjoy a variety of music -- from classical to folk -- performed by our talented musicians and our choir. Through the week, we offer dream groups, Buddhist meditation, and covenant circle groups. Many small groups have formed spontaneously, and while some become closed to new members after a few weeks, many remain open, and new groups are always forming.

Volunteering at Bread of Life
Our members and friends are extremely active in many social justice initiatives in Transylvania County, from working with institutions that help the poor - Bread of Life, The Free Clinic, Sharing House, Habitat for Humanity - to tutoring at local schools, to assisting with new campaigns to seek equity for those less fortunate - the Living Wage Coalition and the Affordable Housing Coalition.

UUTC Children
We have an exciting Children's Religious Exploration program, which introduces our children to ALL of the world's great religious traditions. Our adults participate in religious education in a variety of formats, including book clubs and discussion groups. Our Wonderful Wednesday educational series, on a variety of topics, runs for four to six consecutive Wednesdays, three or four times a year - each evening a wonderful supper and conversation revitalize us, followed by a lecture and discussion to broaden our horizons.

UUTC has both a Women's Group and a Men's Group that meet regularly at our building. The monthly Women's Group meets the first Thursday of each month from 2 to 4 pm on topics of interest, and often takes excursions around the county. The Men's Group meets weekly on Tuesdays from to 10 am, facilitated by Ernie Mills, our minister. It is open format, and the topics vary widely.

Each Wednesday, our minister and a group of UUTC musicians and friends meet from 9 to 10:30 am to just "jam." The gathering is open to all and always involves singing along. Grab a cup of coffee and come on by!

We celebate special occasions frequently, from Everybody's Birthday Party to bowling night to potluck suppers. This year, we had a week of festivities honoring the tenth anniversary as a church, including a musical celebration and family picnic.

UUTC Softball Team

Every spring, we build a terrific new UUTC softball team, and play in a church league. If softball is not your thing, join the cheering team on the sidelines. We boost our players' spirits with our presence, and have a lot of fun!

There are many other non-UUTC groups that use our vacilities and offer programs that are open to all. Just check out our UUTC Calendar.
